STEPPING UP THE PACE FOR 2010..

Welcome..

Thanks for visiting my website. I hope you enjoy reading my racing adventures, or if you are just discovering bikes hopefully it acts as a motivator and doesn’t scare you off.

I am a NZ cyclist and I have been on the racing scene since I was 21. I’ve dabbled on the mountain bike, cyclocross arena and more recently the road. In 2007 I made the decision to switch to the road fully after 5 years of mountain bike racing at an elite level. So far I have had a blast racing the skinny wheels and experiencing the ‘dark side’. 2010 will see me focusing again on the road but there is also a possibility that I’ll be mixing it up with a bit more off road – I love the dirt too much to sell my soul completely…

This year I will be racing in NZ followed by Europe and then on to the States. It’s a big year with some major goals in mind and these should keep me motivated to pedal faster! I feel extremly lucky to have so many opportunities to see the world and meet so many great people along the way, especially since it has all come to fruition through cycling.

Riding and racing has taken me to some of the most incredible and remote areas in the world. I am quite sure I would have never seen half these places had it not been for the love affair that formed with bikes back in 1998. I have also formed some life long friendships along the way. To anyone reading this that is new to cycling, or wondering if they should give it a go, my advice would be to get out there..

Recent Updates...

UCI Liberty Classic - 130 starters, 80 finishers...one gruelling course..

Liberty Classic is the only UCI race in the USA and is also the biggest one day race in the States. It draws phenomenal crowds (300,000), teams from Europe and has got to one of the best races I have ever taken part of. It's right up there with competing in the 06 World MTB Champs which I didn't think could be topped off since it was in NZ and we had a home crowd, but Liberty was INCREDIBLE and I can't wait to do it again next year.

Made it to the States : First race done and dusted -Sommerville Criterium

So I made to the States in one piece and after only 4.5 days in the country a fair amount of drama has already unfolded. I can’t even imagine thinking what sort of stories I‘ll have to tell after 10 weeks here.

Not the greatest plane journey across to New York. Heathrow tried to sting me with a 200 pound excess baggage bill and after a bit of negotiation I managed to whittle it down to 50 pound – thank goodness. I think the look on my face when they said 200 pounds made them reconsider..

Apres Velo launch hot new lycra range....

Apres Velo have been making/designing funky casual wear for the biker obsessed fanatic for a few years now but recently they entered the world of lyrca with a very hot men's and women's technical range. After checking the gear out on their website obviously I just had to have some and feel the love for myself. The women's range is beautiful and hails to every women in the biking religion. The women's jersey has one very cool biker design on the back http://www.apresvelo.com/_product_55812/Sisters_Of_Spin_Riding_Jersey and is extremely well fitted (you can get it in xxs -l).
