STEPPING UP THE PACE FOR 2010..

Welcome..

Thanks for visiting my website. I hope you enjoy reading my racing adventures, or if you are just discovering bikes hopefully it acts as a motivator and doesn’t scare you off.

I am a NZ cyclist and I have been on the racing scene since I was 21. I’ve dabbled on the mountain bike, cyclocross arena and more recently the road. In 2007 I made the decision to switch to the road fully after 5 years of mountain bike racing at an elite level. So far I have had a blast racing the skinny wheels and experiencing the ‘dark side’. 2010 will see me focusing again on the road but there is also a possibility that I’ll be mixing it up with a bit more off road – I love the dirt too much to sell my soul completely…

This year I will be racing in NZ followed by Europe and then on to the States. It’s a big year with some major goals in mind and these should keep me motivated to pedal faster! I feel extremly lucky to have so many opportunities to see the world and meet so many great people along the way, especially since it has all come to fruition through cycling.

Riding and racing has taken me to some of the most incredible and remote areas in the world. I am quite sure I would have never seen half these places had it not been for the love affair that formed with bikes back in 1998. I have also formed some life long friendships along the way. To anyone reading this that is new to cycling, or wondering if they should give it a go, my advice would be to get out there..

Recent Updates...

51st Fitchburg Longsjo Classic - 50 seconds off the prize money and a top 20 finish

I went into the Tour of Fitchburg wanting a top 20 finish on GC and missed out by 50 seconds, finishing 26th and just outside the overall GC for prize money. I'm dissapointed but I gave it everything I had and I just wasn't quite fast enough..
I raced this tour in 2008 and the numbers and depth of the riders were definitely up this year. 89 women started the tour with strong teams such as Colavita dominating every stage and it made for four really good, solid days of racing.

Tour of America's Dairyland - A roller coaster week of racing...

Things just didn't really go according to plan for me or my team at Tour of America's Dairyland. My team was missing riders with two members out of action with injury. Ryan had a mechanical in one of his races and in general things just didn't seem to be working for us. 20 minutes into the first criterium I managed to shave my bike and right hand side of my body into the sidewalk after getting air going through a pothole at 24 mph. I lost control of the brakes and became well acquainted with the cement and grass on the pavement.

K-W Classic Road Race, Ontario Cup 3, Canada - Podium finish, but not on the podium...

On Sunday at 5.45am Natalie and I hit the road to drive up to Canada for the K-W Classic road race in Kitchener. Early mornings can be a bit of struggle for me but the prospect of seeing the Niagara Falls was incentive on top of the race. After experiencing some pretty nice weather here in Rochester it was really chilly by the time we hit Canada and I ended up riding with arm warmers on which I never thought would happen in June.
