Back in NZ after a record long journey...

Posted on 18 February 2010

Finally after 49 hours on planes and in transit at airports I have made it back to NZ pretty shattered from a nasty journey that I wouldn't want to repeat in a hurry. I ended up going via Dubai, Bangkok, Sydney and Brisbane before finally touching down in Wellington by which point I was ready to jump from the plane...
I ended up with a 10 hour stop over in Bangkok and then another 8hrs in Sydney and I would definitely NOT recommend this. Unfortunately this was the only route I could take due to seeing family in Sydney on the way back. Oh well..these things happen.

It's really nice and warm here in NZ, sitting comfy in the 20's and I can finally bring out the shorts and jandals. It seems to hard to believe now that I left Oxford at 3 degrees five days ago.

I've had the chance to see my parents (whom I haven't seen in a year) in Palmerston North, which has been great and made me realize just how far away I am living from them. Plus I can also check out some stages for the Women's Road tour. I am pretty lucky to have 4 stages of the tour heading right through my home town. I don't think this has ever happened before so I am a little excited. The second stage has a grueling climb over the Pahaitua track which is my old training ground from my early 20's. It's an awesome climb that just goes on and on and on...I used to have to fend off magpies doing hill intervals up it, so I really hope I don't get my helmet attacked again. They left some big dent marks!

Right better go and wake up the legs with a small spin and make sure they are ready for some pain next week...
